Chairperson - Shane Lang
Ko Arahura tōku awa. Ko Ripeka Tainui tōku mama rāua ko Noel Lang tōku papa Ko Walter Tainui tōku poua rāua ko Rima Tainui tōku taua Ko Shane Lang ahau Shane grew up in the Arahura Valley and continues to live there. Shane enjoys being in the outdoors; fishing, hunting, fossicking for pounamu or just a stroll on the beach. Shane is a Director and Project Manager with a strong background in civil construction. He is recognised for his integrity, accountability, and clear communication, ensuring stakeholders remain well informed throughout each project. Shane brings practical experience and a disciplined approach to delivering work to a high standard. His leadership supports sustainable, long-term outcomes, with a focus on quality delivery and responsible project management. Shane is committed to achieving results while creating value for both current and future generations.
Deputy Chairperson - Te Rua Mason
Ko Waitaiki kei ruka Ko Poutini ki tai... Mokopuna of Jimmy and Maia Onekura Mason. Eldest Son of Harry Tai and the late Bunty Mason. Brother to Te Ngarahau and Mowena. Raised on the banks of the Mighty Arahura Awa, steeped in Tikanga of our Pounamu and our Mahika Kai practices. Absolutely proud to represent Proprietors of Mawhera Incorporation as a COM Member and now as Deputy Chair. Lives on the West Coast, Married to Miriama with 6 Tamariki and 1 Mokopuna. James Mason Russell
James was appointed to the Committee of Management in 1981 and held the position of Chair untill the end of 2024. James served 28 years in the Merchant Navy Service and retired in 1987 to assist and participate with Ngai Tahu against the Crown as part of Te Kereme and the subsequent Settlement. James was elected to the Rakaia Incorporation in 1991 and was then elected Chair in 1997 and also serves as Trustee of several Maori land blocks on the Tai Poutini. James now enjoys his retirement in the Arahura Valley.
Marie Louise Davidson
Marie Louise was elected to the Committee of Management in 2012. Marie Louise currently works for the ASB Westland Rural team as a Rural Account Manager and brings significant investment and financial management experience to the COM and enjoys contributing towards the growth of Mawhera assets for future generations. Marie Louise lives with her husband and two children and resides at Awatuna.
Rāwiri Hoani Meihana (David John Mason)
Rāwiri was elected to the Committee of Management in 2020. He currently holds roles of Kaiwhakahaere o Mātauranga Māori (Director of Māori Education) and Manager of Student Support and Wellbeing at Tai Poutini Polytechnic in Māwhera. Rāwiri holds a double degree in: Business and Enterprise from Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland and Aotearoa (New Zealand). Rāwiri resides in Māwhera with his partner and three children.
Quentin Johansson
Quentin Johansson was elected to the Committee of Management in 2024. He is the owner-operator of a business in Hokitika, where he lives with his wife and three children. He has a strong commitment to his community and deeply values the people within it. His local focus and dedication bring valuable insight and integrity to his role on the committee.
